Top 5 Events in UK

Whether you're on a working holiday in the UK, or you're simply looking for something to help unwind from work - here's our Top 5 events in UK that you hadn't planned on heading to....

1 - Wilderness Gathering - the annual event of bushcraft and music with wild camping and open fires! A gorgeous event taking you back thousands of years to a simpler, more naturalistic existence where man was at one with nature. With hundreds of different events across survival, outdoor living and storytelling, this is a great one for those with kids, or those grown-up kids amongst us with an enthusiasm for the wild and eccentric!

2 - Cheese Rolling in Gloucestershire - this annual British event, attracting international cheese fanatics from around the world, consists of a number of people racing down a very steep hill after an large round of cheese. While Globe are not entirely sure of the skill or motive behind the event, it attracts thousands of people each year and is a must see for any Aussies or Kiwis in the mood for seeing drunk Brits tumbling and falling down a hill for, well, no particular good reason!

3 - Surfing Competition in Newquay - more of a surfer than a cheese-roller? Then get on down to Newquay in Cornwall for a plethora of annual surfing events from pro to amateur! While the water may be a little colder than in Queensland or New South Wales, the great surf promises to delight and hardened boarder and the area itself can be accessed within several hours from many parts of the UK, by both budget airline and national rail services.

4 - Highland Games - fancy your hand at caber toss or stone put? Have no idea what those are? Then you are in much need of some Scottish and Celtic sports culture! Highland games are held throughout the year to celebrate some of this ancient land's finest and most physically demanding sports. The Cowal Highland Games, held in Dunoon, Scotland, every August, is probably the largest of them all, attracting over 20,000 spectators and up to 3,500 participants, and takes place amid some of the most stunning scenery in all the British Isles.

5 - Haunted Castle - at Halloween take a weekend trip to one of England's famous castles for one of many spooky events held each Autumn. Warwick Castle is one of the UK's better conserved ancient landmarks and attracts tourists in their thousands each year. But at Halloween they open a number of usually forbidden rooms for guests to wander around in at night amid some pretty spooky goings on inbetween! A great day or evening out for the family, or for those of us who just love getting spooked!
