Job Description:

Job role: Anatomical Pathology Technologist ( To cover maternity Leave)

Band: 6

Department : Mortuary Services

Start date; ASAP

End date: TBC

Working hours: 37.5 per week 

1.      Experience needed for role:  Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or level 3 Diploma.

2.      To work alongside and advise when required Pathologists undertaking post mortem examinations.

3.       To perform advanced dissection and reconstruction procedures such as the removal of spinal          cords long bones and middle ears.

5.       Undertake the removal of pacemakers from cadavers on Trusts sites.

6.       To take digital photographic images as required.

7.       To co-ordinate the provision for the disposal of the remains of patients for whom the Trust has this responsibility and monitor compliance with the Human Tissue Act.

8.    Dealing with receipt release viewings of deceased patient’s and their relatives and the record keeping involved in the reception and release of bodies and patient’s property.

9.       Undertake audits and corrective action as required.

10.   Follow risk management and governance policies and procedures.

11.   Be aware of and work to appropriate accreditation standards (e.g. CPA/UKAS MHRA HTA etc).

12.   Deputise for the Mortuary Manger when required including out of hours.

13.   To help in the organisation and provision of Mortuary Services within the Trust and those outside agencies for whom the Trust provides an autopsy Service.

14.   Assist in the induction training and education of junior Pathologists porters other health care workers and the supervision of Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technicians including signing off their competencies when deemed competent.

15.   Ensure that procedures and practices are followed in compliance with Health and Safety legislation and local policies.

16.   Paediatric experience desirable but not essential

Requirements:

·      DBS (we are able to help source this if required)

·      Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology or level 3 Diploma

·      Valid visa/passport

·      Must have NHS or Equivalent experience.
