When did you join Globe Locums?

August 2013

What were you doing before you joined Globe Locums?

I had just graduated with a first class degree in Psychology from the University of Essex.

Why Recruitment?

My BSc didn’t guide me into a specific profession and as I was nearing graduation I was unsure on what I wanted to do. I’d seen a few recruitment roles advertised when job searching and in all honesty it wasn’t something I had ever considered – no one goes to university aspiring to be a recruitment consultant. However, I thought to myself it will tide me over until I figure out what it is I want to do. Yet, almost 7 years on I’m still here and have made a career for myself in an industry I didn’t think I could. A career in recruitment is challenging, exciting and rewarding and a job I’d recommend!

Why did you join Globe?

When I was reviewing different recruitment roles/companies I came across Globe. They came across as a young and exciting company who were recruiting healthcare professionals. I always had a passion and interest for healthcare and so when I saw Globe was a healthcare agency that was actually run by clinicians it just clicked and I thought I want to work for them! (Also the great central London location was a bonus!)

What candidates do you work with, and how to you help them?

I don’t actively recruit candidates for roles in my role here at Globe now, but I used to work with Radiographers. Now I’ve progressed into more of a business development role and I’m generally responsible for keeping everything ticking over - Overseeing everything AHP/HSS.

What do you enjoy most about working at Globe?

My cliché response is ‘The people’ although it’s certainly true! I’ve made some of my best friends and memories whilst working at Globe and my colleagues are the best…

But moreover, working at Globe has been great as you get to engage in such a multi-faceted role. I’m able to network, problem solve and negotiate as well as run interview sessions, train our own internal staff and of course finalise important deals! No day is ever the same and it keeps me on my toes!

What’s been your biggest success here?

I’ve achieved a lot here over the last 7 years. More recently some of my successes are from winning tenders for call-off contracts at NHS/Private trusts. When I compare where Globe was 7 years ago and where we are now I am so proud to be a part of that.

What’s your top tip to new grads?

Be honest and don’t be afraid to ask for help…we all struggle, the worst thing you can do is stay silent :)

When did you join Globe Locums?

October 2018

What were you doing before you joined Globe Locums?

I was 1st year Biomedical Science student.

Why Recruitment?

I joined Globe because of its connection to Healthcare which is what interests me most.

Why did you join Globe?

I saw the ad for a Compliance Admin on a student job. I joined Globe because of the flexibility it offered and ended up loving it, so after my graduation I joined the Sales Team.

What candidates do you work with, and how to you help them?

I work with nurses. At first I try to find out about their wok situation and help them find the most convenient hospitals and roles for them according to their experience, location and availability. I always ask them about their job, and their experience as permanent staff and locum work. Thus, I get to know them on a more personal level and get an understanding of particular hospitals as well, and eventually share the information with other potentially interested nurses and get referrals.

What do you enjoy most about working at Globe?

My work colleagues – the team.

What’s your top tip to new grads?

Be open to every opportunity that comes along the way.

Jasper Sawyers,
Senior Recruitment Consultant

When did you join Globe Locums?

I joined in late-March 2018.

What were you doing before you joined Globe Locums?

After graduating from the University of Exeter (Geography BA) in the summer of 2017, I had taken some time off, to work out what I wanted to do for my career.

During my degree, global health issues and healthcare systems were a particular focus/interest of mine, which in part led me to apply to Globe.

Why Recruitment?

I knew that I wanted to work in a fast-paced and competitive environment, where you get out as much as you put. So combined with my health research/related work at university, healthcare recruitment seemed like the perfect fit!

Why did you join Globe?

Globe struck me a young, exciting and fast growing company were I could develop my skillset and progress at my own pace.

Also, being based in Central London attracted me for life outside of work!

What candidates do you work with, and how to you help them?

I work with Radiographers and Doctors, helping them to secure work around the globe (anywhere from London to Shanghai).

What do you enjoy most about working at Globe?

Dealing with different people in a dynamic and competitive industry.

Having always been involved in sport, working in a team environment like we have on Globe’s divisional desks is a massive bonus. I don’t think I’ve ever had a boring day in the office!

What’s been your biggest success here?

Within my first year on the Radiography desk, I won a 6 month competition (based on performance), which resulted in an all-inclusive holiday to Dubrovnik, Croatia.

What’s your top tip to new grads?

Listen and learn from the top consultants at the company. Each will have slightly different approaches and methods that made them successful.

Ross Havercroft,
Team Manager

When did you join Globe Locums?

November 2014

What were you doing before you joined Globe Locums?

I was working in the same industry with a different Healthcare Recruitment Agency.

Why Recruitment?

When I first started out, I wanted to find a career where I would be directly rewarded for the hard work that I was prepared to put in. Recruitment seemed to fit the bill perfectly and the fact that every day you were dealing with new situations keeps you engaged all year round. You need to ensure you are always thinking on your feet, otherwise, you end up losing out to other agencies. The competitiveness of the Healthcare industry means your will to succeed is constantly being challenged and you’ll need this competitive edge to perform the best possible job for both your candidates and clients.

Why did you join Globe?

When I joined Globe we were a young and relatively small company. The opportunity to help grow and develop the agency was a big incentive and being a member of the Senior Management Team allowed me to implement all the new recruitment methods and processes within the organisation. This has helped Globe grow from 12 employees in 2014 to approximately 100 in 2021.

What candidates do you work with, and how do you help them?

Initially, I helped set up the Podiatry, Audiology, SLT & Dietetics divisions, before moving back into Radiography, an industry I have worked in for over 15 years now. We place Radiographers of all modalities, the length and breadth of the UK in both the NHS & Private settings.

What do you enjoy most about working at Globe?

I think having a career where your role is primarily to help areas of healthcare with staff shortages is the most satisfying part of the job. In terms of the office environment, working with a young, vibrant team is really important and everyone gets on well here at Globe. We have a very social atmosphere in the office so it’s imperative that this is embraced by everyone.

What’s been your biggest success here?

There have been a few, but helping the Radiography desk become one of the, if not the market leader within Imaging. Our status initially as a comparative minnow in the Healthcare market meant that we had to work harder and smarter than our competitors in order to make an impact. These values have stuck and continued with us to this day.

What’s your top tip to new grads?

Hard work, there is no substitute for it. If you are prepared to work hard, learn from your peers then you should certainly succeed. When you start out in recruitment you need to be accepting of the fact that you will need to put in long hours at the start of your career but may not always see the rewards immediately. However, if you are prepared to do this and commit long term, you will inevitably see the benefits further down the line.
