Main role Duties and responsibilities

*To conduct a full range of  pulmonary function tests including spirometry reversibility DLCO static lung volumes (N2 washout and body plethysmography) muscle strength tests and skin allergy tests on patients attending the Pulmonary laboratory.

*To carry out a range of more advanced tests such as mannitol challenge and exercise provocation tests.

*To conduct cardiopulmonary exercise tests

*To conduct and manually score overnight limited or full sleep studies.

*To assist patients attending the Sleep Unit for follow-up assessments on nasal CPAP including downloading compliance from their machines

*To help & encourage patients with aspects of their CPAP therapy (in particular relating to their mask system and CPAP devices)

*To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to advise patients on sleep apnea conditions and options for care/treatment available

*To perform administrative duties to ensure smooth running of the lab and accurate record keeping.

*To deal effectively with queries regarding PFT testing and appointments

*To maintain and update patient records in line with Hospital Administration policies

*To work within national and international guidelines at all times.

*To provide first line maintenance electrical and medical gases safety checking and calibration of all equipment in Pulmonary laboratory

*To participate in Quality control program to ensure accurate and reproducible results.

*To perform regular audits as part of the multidisciplinary team in the Sleep/respiratory Service.

*To ensure clinical standards and standards of patient care are followed at all times

*The post holder would need to have sufficient technical knowledge to operate all new equipment.

*To ensure that accurate patient records and Departmental statistics are recorded.

*To participate in the clinical research activity in the Department when required

*To follow hospital policies and procedures in all aspects of care of the patient and equipment/infection control

*Proficiency in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques

*To be familiar with the hospital and Department disaster plans and their implementation

Position Requirements

*BSc in Clinical Measurement Equivalent and/or Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) or Equivalent

*Minimum 3 years satisfactory relevant post qualification experience
